Tuesday July 18: Centering Prayer – at St. Christopher’s

Centering Prayer helps us open, over time, to the presence and action of God within us. It’s a means of deepening our faith life and helping us relax our white-knuckle grip on life. Join Kate Mason, who has been practicing Centering Prayer for over seven years and for the last three years who’s led a weekly contemplative prayer group for beginners and experienced practitioners alike.

Tuesday August 15: Create Prayer Beads – at Bethany

People have long benefited from the use of items like a palm-sized cross or rosary to aid them in focus during prayer. Episcopal or Protestant prayer beads are designed to offer a focus on five aspects of the work of Jesus Christ: his birth, ministry, death, resurrection and ascension/reign in glory. Participants can choose from a selection of beads to create their own prayer beads. A guide for use of the beads in prayer will be provided.

Note: There is a $20 cost for materials for this workshop. RSVP to bethanynorthport.org by August 7th

Tuesday Sept 12: Knit/Crochet a Prayer Shawl – at Bethany

Earlier this year, ten women gathered to knit, crochet, talk and pray together. This gathering will offer guidance on knitting and crocheting and the ministry of creating prayer shawls for persons in need of encouragement and/or consolation.

Tuesday Oct 3: Your Final Witness to Faith – at Bethany

Your funeral/memorial service/Celebration of Life is an important opportunity to share your faith with your family and friends. Planning your service is a precious gift you can give to your family. You’ll be guided through a series of questions and decisions to create a personal gathering that shares what you would want your loved ones and friends to know about your life and your faith.

Explore Your Faith Journey – Women’s Reading Circle

Is a woman’s journey to God different than that of a man? Does it matter? How does the Church influence our approach to God? Is it just about pronouns or is it something else?

You are cordially invited to a new Women’s Circle to discuss the many ways in which women in today’s world follow a spiritual path. The Circle’s first gathering will be on the grounds of Bethany Lutheran Church on July 6th between 11 o’clock and 12:30. We’ll continue to meet at Bethany on alternate Thursdays throughout the summer or as long as there is interest.

Each session will begin with a short meditation and then, using Methodist minister Jan L. Richardson’s In the Sanctuary of Women as a guide, we’ll hold space for each other as we discuss our own spiritual journeys, the spiritual journeys of other women throughout history, how we may have been influenced by the journeys of these women, and whether we can learn from them.

Join us to explore your faith journey in a circle of kindness and respect. This Circle is open to all and there is no attendance requirement; come when your schedule allows and bring your lunch if you like. Please bring your lawn chair to the first gathering. In case of rain, we’ll move our gathering to Bethany’s Fellowship Hall.
